Gumnut Preschool is a community-based organisation offering a preschool program for children for the year before they are eligible to start school. Gumnut has been an important facility for generations of local families since the 1950′s. The preschool has been continually operating out of the current building since 1970 when it became the permanent home for Gumnut and it’s children.
Groups / Days of Attendance:
We operate two separate classes of 20 children in the Snugglepot and Cuddlepie Rooms. At present, attendance can be either 2 days (Mon / Tue) or 3 days (Wed / Thu / Fri). The groups are set days, as well as being consecutive days to provide the children with continuity.
Hours of Operation:
The Preschool is open from 9am to 3pm each weekday during school terms only. Extended hours (start 8.30am, finish 3.50pm) can be arranged with the Director (criteria for eligibility applies). The Centre is occasionally closed for pupil free / staff development days throughout the year.
Gumnut is a not-for-profit organisation. The daily fee is set at the General Meeting in November each year after the Budget for the following year has been presented. The daily fee for 2018 is $37 per day. This is subject to review and funding received, and may be increased if needed. An invoice will be issued at the beginning of each term and payable in full by Week 8 of that term. Holders of the Low Income Health Care Card are eligible to receive subsidised fees (maximum of 2.5 days per week).
Gumnut has developed Policies which guide our every day practise in line with the National Education and Care Regulations.
As a community based organisation, the day to day operation of the Centre is conducted by the Director. A Management Committee, consisting of parents elected at the Annual General Meeting each year, is responsible for the overall management of the Preschool. Meetings are held regularly throughout the year. Gumnut is registered as an Incorporated Association under the Associations Incorporation Act, 1984. As part of the enrolment process, one parent / guardian from each family is required to become a member of the Association (ie Gumnut).
